Greg walked down the long corridor with his head lowered. He was in a daze as his mind wandered in circles in frustration and confusion. Charlotte had changed so drastically in such a short period of time. It was just the other day that she left the barracks with a twinkle in her eye and a smile on her lips as she dashed out to the helicopter to set off on her first official mission. Then when she came home the next night, Greg could have sworn that she was a war veteran. Her cheerfulness was sucked out of her and she would stare at the wall just thinking about the terrible things she had seen.
Charlotte had told him the she never imaged that Shield was capable of such horrible things. She had said that after seeing “the woman” and discovering “the woman’s” past, she wanted nothing to do with Umbrella and was planning on becoming a rebel.
“You know they’ll come after you. They’ll hunt you down like a fox on a fox hunt.” Greg’s word echoed in his head while he walked, And all she could say was, “I’m quite aware of that” She was so confident in her decision…
“Hey, Greg!” a familiar voice interrupted Greg’s thoughts.
Greg turned around to the source of the call, “Yes?”
A good friend of his, Frank, dashed up towards him, “Hey, man, where you goin’?”
“Just taking a stroll…” Greg’s voice trailed off.
“A stroll? At a time like this?”
“Yeah, something wrong with that?”
Frank blinked in puzzlement, “Don’t tell me you didn’t her about it?”
“Hear about what?”
“About dogs escaping.”
Greg straightened up, “You mean the local farmer’s dogs right…? Please tell me those dogs that escaped were harmless hounds…”
Frank shook his head, “Nope. They were a couple of Cerberi. I heard through the grape vine in the mess hall that the keeper at the mansion was careless and a couple of them escaped. One showed up here and bit a guard. The whole place went crazy!”
Fear developed in Greg’s eyes, “And the rest are running around the forest?”
“Don’t tell me those mutts have a sergeant like you scared,” Frank scratched his head.
Greg looked disgusted, “No, I’m fine. It‘s just…”
“It’s just what?”
A cold sweat developed on Greg’s forehead. Charlotte’s out there…
“Greg?” Frank gently shook his friend who was now in another trans. “Greg, snap out of it!”
“Huh?” Greg looked at Frank.
“Dude…Something’s eaten at you. I can tell. What’s going on?”
“It’s nothing…” he pushed past Frank. “I’ve gotta go. I’ll catch you later, Frank.”
Greg then began to walk quickly towards his room. If what Frank said was true, then Charlotte could be in danger.
